4wd and a small hiatus

Now armed with my Team Durango 410R I went to my local track to get some practice in and get get used to racing 4wd.
4wd was always a class that looking interesting, fun and competitive. and the Team Durango car was said to be the very best in its class. Winning the IFMAR world Champs in 2009 it had a race proven pedigree which I was eager to put to the test for myself.
The car I had purchased was 2nd had but advertised as new by the seller, having bought it himself as a spares car that he never needed.
The shell I was supplied was sprayed a very hideous bright neon pink! yes its visible, but its not something I would have chosen for myself.
I'd also had some issues with the diffs in the car when I'd taken them out to check the oils and change them to what was better suited to my home track. seems I'd made a common error and put the diffs in upside down, which makes the car go backwards under power.
It was difficult for me to work this out as I wasn't supplied a manual when I bought the car and hadn't thought to check the website to see if one was available.

So with diffs sorted and car going the right way, I crammed my Orca Qspark speed control, HPI flux pro 10.5 motor, spektrum micro reciever and Savox 1258 servo into the tight space available in the 410 and headed for the track.

Sadly my first taste of 4wd action was an unmitigated disaster!
I stripped a spur gear my first time out and had nothing but bother after that, I couldn't get the Spur cover clip to go in the way it was supposed to and nobody track side could figure out why, and one of usually good soldering jobs had come loose from the motor. add to that the piss taking I got for having such a hideous pink car left me frustrated and annoyed. Normally I can take the punches on the chin and the banter wouldn't have bothered me, but with the issues I'd had it just got under my skin.

I left dis-heartened and disappointed. So much so in fact that I couldn't be bothered to go back to the track or even to sort out the car.
I did however continue to spend a few bits on the car to try and sort out some of the more glaring issues.
I replaced the plastic suspension hangers with the alloy ones, I got the full spring kit for the fitted small bore shocks and even got a different shell! I also swapped out the rubbish ball cups with the new HD cups.

But my de-motivation kept me from actually racing the car as I simply couldn't be bothered. I kept up to date on current events within the RC world via Oople and when the new Team Durango 2wd car was released, I once again felt that twinge of passion for racing returning. But the 410 would have to go!
